Frequently Asked Questions

What is the current size and composition of Donatos Pizza and its markets?
Donatos currently owns and operates 65 company stores in Ohio, specifically Columbus and Cleveland. Additionally, there are 111 franchised restaurants in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Alabama, North and South Carolina.
Am I limited to one restaurant or can I obtain territorial rights?
Multi-restaurant development agreements are available depending upon prospective Franchise Partner qualifications, as well as geographical considerations. These agreements require up-front payment of a non-refundable Development Fee equal to $5,000 times the number of restaurants to be developed.
What is the initial Franchise Fee?
The non-refundable initial Franchise Fee is $25,000. For your first restaurant, you will also incur a $15,000 fee for a Training Team to assist you in opening.
What are the ongoing fees – royalty, marketing, etc.?
  • Licensing Fee – five percent (5%) of Net Sales
  • Marketing Fund – one percent (1%) of Net Sales
  • Co-Op - Typically one to four percent (1-4%), as decided by the members (if Co-Op exists)
  • Marketing Expenses: You will agree to spend at least five percent (5%) of Net Sales on marketing and advertising. The Marketing Fund contribution and Co-Op fees (if applicable) mentioned above are credited towards the spending requirement.
Do I need restaurant operations experience?
You (or your designated Operating Partner) are required to have relevant food service operations experience. This is the single most important factor for success. We do require your Operating Partner to have ownership interest in your organization if you do not have operations experience yourself.
Do I have to work in my restaurant?
You (or a designated Operating Partner) will be required to actively manage the day-to-day operations of your business.  As such, you (or your designated Operating Partner) must live in the area to be developed and possess prior restaurant/retail supervision experience commensurate with the number of restaurants to be developed.
What does the typical Donatos Pizza restaurant look like?
Our restaurants are generally in-line or end cap spaces in shopping centers and range in size between 1,200 and 2,200 square feet. Our typical location is a 2,000 square foot, end cap location with four access points: a 25 to 35 seat dining room, either a drive-up window or curbside delivery (reserved spots), delivery and catering services.
What are the next steps in becoming a Donatos Pizza Franchise Partner?
Download your Franchise Kit and a representative will contact you to verify that you meet the initial requirements and qualifications and that you are a good fit for our process. After your initial conversation, a one-hour web conference will be scheduled with you for a deeper discussion. During that discussion, you will learn a lot more about Donatos and you’ll be introduced to our Mutual Discovery Process.
How long does the Mutual Discovery Process take?
Our Mutual Discovery Process is designed to take about three months. It’s a very comprehensive, educational and productive process during which we will both gain a comfort level that the Donatos Pizza franchise opportunity is right for you and that you are a good fit in the Donatos Pizza Franchise family.
